Movie Night: What We Do in the Shadows

Okay, it is Friday... And for those with no social life whatsoever it is time to watch a good movie! Today I decided on comedy. My taste in comedy is very specific, since I don't like those 'obvious jokes' comedies. And at the same time, it is supernatural kind of movie. Isn't it awesome? Can you guess it? I present you What We Do in the Shadows!

Let us dig in it right away! But first of all, I have to tell you little about the plot. Just one sentence. Vampires, that are living together in presence. And movie is made like documentary. Lets continue...

Characters.
Viago, Deacan, Vladislav and Petyr are four vampires. They are living together... Yeah, as flatmates. As it is described in trailer, situation with four vampires under one roof can become tricky. They argue about bloody dishes or bloody furniture. But they are lovely fellas. They might argue, or have different points of views, but they like their 'living-together' situation. I don't want to say too much about them, since they are individually introduced in the movie and it is just hilarious. But I will say this, they are stereotypical vampires from old folk tales.

Story.
As it was already mentioned, it is story of vampires living together in modern age. It really does not take you on some kind of revolutionary story. Or some crappy abusive romance ride. It is heart warming struggle through everyday life. Yes, I said it. Heart warming. Break point of their life is new vampire entering the household and his approach to vampire life as a youngster. And trust me, struggle is real. You could say, that it is a story about little vampire evolution.

Overall thoughts.
I loved it! And you will too! If you grew up on vampire stuff like Blade, Buffy or many awesome PC games (trying to say, that Twilight, Vampire Diaries and other modern vampires are not relevant source of info on vampires), you will enjoy it. Movie really thinks of vampires in modern age. It doesn't make them invincible, nor total losers. They are trying to live their lives, even though gold age of vampirism is gone. Meaning, that they can't manipulate masses as in medieval days, or have that much women or that much food. Movie also depicts ancient problems of vampires. For example, their inability to be seen in mirror. Hence they have no idea, if they look good.

This movie really thought about aftermaths. It took the idea of vampires in present day and twisted it in the most possible way. If vampires were real, they would be like this. Because, face it, modern age is too much for them. Everyone knows about everyone. So to hide vampire cults so powerful, that no one could handle them is naive. And also idea of falling in love with flawless vampire is naive and smashed to bits. These four men will show you the real and sexy (obviously) vampires.

So if you are looking, for indie comedy (this was made by kiwis), look no further. I consider this to be the best comedy of the last year. It was fun all the time. This documentary like movie felt so real! It was hilarious to watch mighty vampires think stereotypically about people and themselves, and also werewolves! I would recommend this to anyone who likes old school vampire lore and wants to laugh a lot.
